The Knigges of Omro, Wisconsin, were the first dairy producers in the United States to milk their cows with robots. With more two decades of experience with robotic milking, Charlie Knigge has upgraded his two Lely Astronaut robotic milking systems three times and has seen innovative improvements in each robot generation. The Knigges upgraded to Lely Astronaut A5s last fall and made the switch from guided flow to free flow with their herd of 120 cows. Since the transition, they have seen increased robot visits which has translated into higher milk production. Check out this week's Coffee Talk to hear Charlie's insights on how robotic milking has changed in the past two decades, and why he believes it's the only way to milk cows.
